1787 the Musical

The play is written for middle school age performers. Many students study the constitution and declaration of independence. This musical is written as a way to complement those themes. Students who have studied this history will have a closer connection to the script than others.

The cast calls for 22 performers; 12 are significant roles. The play features 6 of the founding fathers, all male. In order to achieve gender balance, females can be cast as males. See the cast list for details.

The play includes 12 musical pieces (ranging from 30 seconds to almost 4 minutes). The most basic instrumentation would be guitar, a bass, and percussion. Most songs were written with the guitar; printed music notation is currently not available. Separately there is a role for two musicians (flute and snare drum) to dress in character and perform a fife and drum piece.
