More Than One Way, Lead Sheet

Chorus

E                                                               B7       E

There’s more than one way to solve the problem in your way

A                    B7    E

More than one way, more than one way

E                                       B7   E

Consider the options, think creatively

     A               B7       E

Be open to the possibilities!

              A             B7                E

You could run away together, build a treehouse in the woods

A                    B7                 E

Right along the river where the fishing is so good

A                          B7            E

They’d come looking for you and together you would say:

         A                  B7               E/B7/E

We’re staying here until we get our way!    (4 measures of drums) CHORUS

              A               B7                  E

You could cover up the bumper stickers on your mother’s car

A                             B7                E

Replace them with the candidates she says have gone too far

              A                            B7                E

You could change your name completely, have a new identity

     A               B7             E/B7/E

Be fictional and you will feel free!  (4 measures of drums) CHORUS

             A             B7            E

You could build a helicopter, get in and fly away

A                      B7               E

Go where no one tells you who can or cannot play

     A              B7              E

Or dig a tunnel system for a secret get-away

A           B7             E/B7/E

Visit any night or any day!    (4 measures of drums) CHORUS

             A                   B7           E

You could talk with magic fairies and they could cast a spell

  A                            B7       E

I know that they would do it as long as you don’t tell

A                         B7            E

They would fix your parents, to not say “no” again

     A                   B7              E/B7/E

So you can play all day with any friend (4 measures of drums) CHORUS

             A               B7              E

We could invite all the parents to a special school event

A                       B7     E

Communicate this story, something we present

A                         B7              E

Play for them great music, where we all dance around

A                       B7                      E/B7/E

Together we’d create some common ground (interrupted to request it’s slowed down)

(Played much slower)

             A               B7              E

We could invite all the parents to a special school event

A                         B7    E

Communicate this story, something we present

A                         B7               E

Play for them great music, where we all dance around

A                      B7                     E/B7/E

Together we’d create some common ground (4 measures of drums) CHORUS

Production Details:

The song takes place with both classes combined for a large circle discussion.

Verses: Presented by the individual students on stage in Miss Baker and Mrs. Williams’ classes. There are five verses which lend themselves to five solo presenters.

Verses may be spoken conversationally, and not sung.

After the fifth verse, the song is literally stopped cold, as the singer is asked to recite the verse again, but more slowly. This verse essentially is the discovery of the dance party idea! After the slower version, it’s counted off again at the original tempo for a grand finale.

Performers have a choreographed dancing movement to go with the drum street beat section.

Staging:

20 or so students in a semi-circle, which is different than the split classroom scene earlier. We want to allow students to face the audience, but still look like a classroom circle.

Musically:  Key of E

This song has elements of a march. With that in mind, the snare drum simulates a marching band's street beat, leading into each chorus section.

Verses will need to be very soft and sensitive to young, solo singers.
